Flamingo Land, Yorkshire.

Its been about 3 years since I last visited flamingo land and to be honest one of the last places I would have thought about visiting this year. That was until a club member on the club pleasure beach website posted a trip report and commented how much the park had changed in recent years.

Time to take dust of the AA map and take my family on the 2.5hr trip up to Yorkshire.

Folly Farm Pembrokeshire, A look at the past.

For anyone with an interest in vintage fairground rides a trip to Folly Farm is really a must. Not only is the farm packed with Animals it also houses the UK largest indoor traditional fun fair. The rides date back to the 1920’s and have all been lovingly restored and updated at the farm to meet current health and safety requirements.
Folly Farm is located in Pembrokeshire a short journey from Tenby and about 30 minutes drive from Oakwood. This article takes a quick look at some of the stunning attractions on offer at the farm and also looks at some of the history behind certain rides. I have got some of the history from a souvenir guide written by Brian Steptoe a leading fairground historian and the author of 2 books on the subject.

All the photographs are taken by me, but unfortunately I forgot to take a tripod, hence some of the pictures may be a little dark or over exposed. one problem with old fairground rides and the vast amount of lights is they play havoc with modern digital camera sensors ;-) ok so thats my excuse.

The final days of the Cyclone, Southport pleasureland

Cyclone, buit in 1937 by the legendary coaster builder Charles Paige was demolished in November 2006, heres a quick look at some of the demolition scenes courtesy of photographer Alan Robson.

New Brightons Fun Fair in 2006

Like most people who grew up in the North West of England I visited New Brighton as a child and fondly remember summertime visits to the resort. The Huge open air swimming baths been the highlight of any visit.

The resort once housed an indoor fairground which at the time I thought was huge, today the indoor fairground has gone but a small fair does exist outside what was once the indoor fairground.

Here’s a brief look at whats on offer (fairground wise) for anyone considering a trip to the resort.

Traumatizer’s final year, Pleasureland 2006

Traumatizer a Vekoma suspended looping coaster was introduced to Southport Pleasureland for the summer of 1999 at a cost of £5 million pounds. The track measures 2,200ft and has a height of 109ft with a total of 5 inversions.
Sadly on the 5th September 2006 the park closed it gates for the last time and the ride has since been dismantled and moved to Blackpool pleasure beach ready for the 2007 season. The ride will be completely re-themed and renamed to Infusion.

Here I take a look back at the rides final year and the subsequent dismantling and transportation to Blackpool.
