Camelots nightmare with Knightmare

I heard Camelot were opening Knightmare today so ignored the weather forecast and made the 30 minute trip to the park. Knightmare had been advertised on Local radio as well as taking some prime TV commercial slots in the granada region yesterday evening.

The station with train number 2.

When we arrived at the ride however all was not good, the operators had been doing some training earlier in the day in anticipation of an opening this afternoon and we were told operator fault caused the ride to stall before the first set of brakes.

And finally taken from further back showing the train in relation to the rest of the track. Train is on the left hand side.

I didnt get chance to speak to any officals but a couple of ride ops told us a boost section at the top of the lift hill wasnt switched on, the resulting the car didnt have enough energy to make the first set of brakes.

I thought they might lift it off but the intense rain must have put them off, the rain didn’t ease during our 3hr trip. I felt a bit sorry for Camelot, with the delayed opening plus the amount they must have spent on advertising.

Hopefully this is a minor stumbling block and the ride can be open tomorrow without any such trouble. I’ll just have to wait another week to ride it.

That aside it does look like an excellent ride, heres some general photographs I took.

Finally train number 3.

  1. In fact was not operator error at all, the train simply didnt make it to the first brake on its first unloaded run (such is the nature of coasters !!!). The three booster motors are not switched on manually they come on automatically.

  2. The motors simply assist the train onto brake 1, they dont have sufficient traction to move the full weight of a train without sufficient momentum at the ascent angle it is on. In this instance the train hit the motors and they held it static until such point as the thermal trips cut them out and then it rolled back. I hope this clears up the facts and is of interest. Also it should be running again on Sunday.

  3. Thanks for clearing this up Sean. I had a feeling someone would know the full story. I really hope its running today, the last thing Camelot want at the moment is more delays. I look forward to riding it at some point in the next couple of weeks. Thanks.

  4. Ride is now running again. Incidentally if anybody has any other technical questions regarding the ride, I would be happy to answer them.

  5. Great news Sean. ;-)

  6. Great news, Col over at ukrides.info has been busy updating his site. loads of new pictures and a couple of Knightmare videos.
