The final days of the Cyclone, Southport pleasureland

Cyclone, buit in 1937 by the legendary coaster builder Charles Paige was demolished in November 2006, heres a quick look at some of the demolition scenes courtesy of photographer Alan Robson.
Before we get to the pictures heres a few stats.
Length : 2500ft
Height : 60ft
Speed : 42mph

This plaque was on the side of the ride operators control box as shown below.

I was lucky to be one of the last riders on Cyclone the weekend before closure. During a Club Pleasure Beach event we had exclusive ride time on Cyclone and Traumatizer before the park opened its gates to the public.
The day was an absolute washout and it rained heavily for the majority of the day. Nobody knew this would be the last time we ever got to ride Cyclone as the doors to the park closed for good three days later.
The management didnt waste much time moving in with Chainsaws and additional security so they could start demolishing the classic coaster. Within days chainsaws had removed large sections of track and despite the efforts of some locals and the heritage trust Cyclones time had finally run out.
The giant nibblers moved in a few weeks later and started to demolish the ride.

As a north west resident I have visited southport for well over 35 years, every summer involved the 30-40 minute car ride to Southport, even now as a 37yr old I still visited the park a few times every summer with my own children.
The enthusiasts may say its only a park and its only a ride but with so many local parks closing or rumoured to be closing i do worry about the future, will there be anything left for my grand children to visit ???
I have a load of photographs taken within a week of the park closure, ill get round to posting these once I have sorted them out.

Thanks Again to Alan Robson for the demolition photographs
